Originating from Mallow Co Cork, Mark’s love of riding began at an early age. He quickly rose through the ranks and represented Ireland on the junior and young riders show jumping teams.

Educated at Presentation Brothers College Cork and later at University College Cork where he obtained an honours degree in Economics. During the summers of ’93 and ’94 Mark spent his holidays working at Miles River Stables, Hamilton Massachusetts, USA where he gained invaluable experience and training.

After university Mark moved to the UK where he rode for Ann Berry at Limes Farm Equestrian Centre. It was through Ann that Mark had his first ride in the Hickstead Derby on her own Alfredo.
